characters we love with a squee

It's funny the ones we take to our hearts, absolutely, we're not sure why, but... we love them with a squee in two instants. They're not necessarily the ones we fancy, or the good ones, or just the plain evil ones. They're just the ones we adore with all our hearts and we get really, really mad when some stupid writer messes them up because they don't love them or obsess over them enough to treat them well.
:glares: Bill Willingham, I'm looking at you...
Sometimes it's obvious how much a writer loves them. Sometimes they will do terrible things to them in the name of keeping the action going, but it's still obvious they still love them to pieces. And they have too much fun writing them.
Someone pass me Mark Waid and see how much he can squee over the Flash in general, Wally West in particular. You get the feeling that they had to tie him up and feed him strong drugs to make him let go.
Sometimes the all-consuming love means a slight bit of Mary-Sue.
Joss Whedon, meet Fred.
So, just wondering, who are your loves?
Mine :
Molly from Books of Magic
Cordelia, BtVS-Angel, pre the demoning. You wonder why everyone went 'squee! She's back!' when she did the ghost return?
Wesley, BtVS-Angel
Nearly every single one of the Batman supporting cast. Not all the villains, but every single one of the cops and all the family. Except Jean-Paul.
The Green Arrow boys. And girls.
Jenny Sparks. Stormwatch, Authority
Vic Mackey and Claudette Wyms, The Shield
Will Scarlett, Guy of Gisburne and Robert de Reinault, Robin of Sherwood
The Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
The whole main cast of Farscape
And shush. Bias trend? What bias trend?
ETA: Yes, I've missed loads of characters, like Sharpe, 006, Indiana Jones, the whole cast of Firefly, Hamish Macbeth, etc, etc.... And why yes, we're still seeing a trend.

Jean-Paul is the Aquaman of the Batverse.
(Though I'm fonder of Arthur than I am of JP.)

Date: 2004-07-22 11:47 am (UTC)Also, because I am a massive loser, there are a few real people, too. Major-General James Wolfe. 'Cuz. Oh, how I heart him so. Everyone thought he was crazy. Until he won Quebec and Louisbourg for the British.
And Major Scott, but that's mainly the version of him I'm writing in the French and Indian War novel, since you get only a bit of info about him with the seige of Louisbourg and his Provisional Light Infantry, but that just leaves a lot of room for me to play around, and I heart my creation so very very much. He is snarky and has common sense and has cool ideas. The last part actually is historically true, but oh. How I adore him.
I'm sure there are more. But I'll spare you. *grin*
