Pondering comics choice

Okay, I know everyone has a preference on storylines. What I'm wondering is, where do people stand on the type of story?
People that know me know of my utter slavish devotion to noir. I read *Batman* for preference, for gods' sake. Closely followed by Green Arrow, Warren Ellis (who tends to slip between noir and completely fucked-up sci-fi nuttiness), 100 Bullets, Powers and suchlike. When they brought out Gotham Central I squeed like a mad thing. Detective no. 27, the Batman Elseworld (and yes, there are immense amounts of Batman elseworlds that are Raymond Chandler-esque - they just fit so well). One of my all-time fave minis was this little one from Image called Siren, which was like a pre-runner to Powers, only PI based with quieter powers. Sin City I loved pre-it going bloated and overworn. Gimme detectives and dark nasty streets and sleazy bars and I start salivating. This partially explains my deep, deep love of The Shield and other detective-cop based tv. If they ever bring on more Ultraviolet I'll be in heaven.
A seconder to that does tend to be anything with pulp overtones. Things like American Century, which is a long cruise through the Fifties pulps made flesh. Hopper paintings. Planetary, which loves to rework those pulp cliches. Edgar Rice Burroughs and anytime someone does an au in fic reworking Tarzan.
So what the hell do you lot favour?

Date: 2004-09-17 10:32 pm (UTC)me, i like variety. i bought matt kindt's TWO SISTERS yesterday, cause i loved PISTOLWHIP and THE YELLOW MENACE. but i bought a transformers graphic novel (WAR WITHIN 2) with it. i only go for the gen 1 transformer stuff, though. so that's like noir crime stuff and big robots. i'm thinking of giving CEREBUS a good look into, since i love the look of the later half of the series. i buy FABLES and 100 BULLETS and all the alan moore stuff, and gaiman's, too. i dig (dug?) STARMAN and HITMAN a whole heap.
the craig thompson stuff is cool, too. so is scott morse's.
i could go on and on, though i read less single issue stuff than i used too.

Date: 2004-09-19 07:25 pm (UTC)I discovered Preacher at about the halfway mark and that was fantastic. Since then I've added Punisher to my list, initially for the Ennis/Dillon partnership, but I've kept it on just for Ennis. I added Amazing Spider-Man when Joe Straczynski took over and I read Rising Stars too. Other than that, my reading list had been pretty stagnant until I came to Australia. With my standing order still being delivered to the UK, it meant that not only would I have a lot of reading to catch up on when I get home, but that I would need something new to read over here, so I'm now on Astonishing X-Men, 100 Bullets, The Authority, Powers and whatever else catches my eye. These will probably all be added to my standing order when I get home. I also like Sin City and was a fan of the Batman Elseworlds for a while.
Any other suggestions would be gladly received.
