work and modding

This afternoon work went to hell in a handbasket. From computer and programs periodically siezing up to getting interrupted every five minutes to the point that it would take me several minutes to figure out what I *had* been doing. Still, nothing compared to Lissy - first day back from holiday, morning was fine and happy for all that it was catching up with masses of work, and then came the afternoon. Where she discovered that the bloke who'd been supposed to be doing work had left it riddled with errors (which meant it wouldn't upload), can't contact him as he's in hospital, her sector of the workflow well and truly and buggered up, and workflow themselves somehow did something that screwed up completely. I was solving every one else's work quickly and calmly. whenever it was mine, the computer went 'screw you'.
Came home, watered plants, put food away, and dived into comm management. Headache averted.
Doing the blinky of realisation that if it wasn't for ruling half the comms, I would be a near-silent Robin Hood fan. Looking at the occasional icon post. Never reading the fic. commenting on the ep reaction posts but that's it.
sitting on my hands and biting my tongue over the
thedarkisrising comm. I hate the layout. I hate the white text on dark. I hate the mood theme. Ages ago I asked the mod if I could go through and tag everything. She said yes, so I did. Then discovered when a spammer hit that I could delete posts. It's a low-traffic, very well-behaved community so the most I ever do is tag things. Looked at my privileges - and it turns out she gave me maintainer. Which freaked me out slightly. Essentially I can do *anything* to that comm. I am not allowed to do anything to it, it's not my comm, it's not my comm, the owner is still a member even if she's completely absent. I presume a lot of you heard about that thing over in SPN where a mod got banned from her own community by two people who decided they could run it better. I just want to go in and change the layout. NOT ALLOWED.

Date: 2008-10-14 06:42 pm (UTC)I can't believe a mod got banned from her own community, that's a bit mad. Surely they could have worked out some kind of compromise/suggestion post/co-modding dealio, unless she was really difficult to deal with? I feel like the best solution with big/main comms is to have two mods, but they need to be equal status or at least be able to discuss stuff? That was what was good about

the SPN business is up on fandom_wank somewhere - They were moderators who helped her occasionally with tagging and so on. She let them have maintainer privileges to fix a coding problem with the layout for what I heard was an hour, and they went and banned her because they felt they could run it so much better. Essentially, they didn't want to go through the effort of starting their own community and decided to steal someone else's. And then went and deleted as much of the discussion to cover their own tracks.
