Although almost nobody recognised "Gidjabolgo" or where it came from. I stopped using it when I started to meet fandom people, and they started to call me by my handle.

See part of my user name comes from my uncle's nickname for me anyways, so I have no problems personally being called by my handle at cons and stuff.

For my part, I've always gone by my real name, partly as a reaction to receiving heavy mockery about it as a child; it's a way of saying 'up yours!' to the people who found it funny at school.

(And; personal hot button; I have a certain level of disdain for Gideons who have given in to the pressure to be normal.)

Fortunately, it's a rare enough name that I can use it without major danger of confusion, though it caused a small amount of disruption when caerleon turned up on AFP back in 1996; he settled on Gid, I stayed as Gideon.
