Internet Jesus preserve us. [livejournal.com profile] ironicbees is trying to kill us with the dribblesome again.

Seriously. The last picture is just a state of dear fucking god drown in puddle of drool. I'm sure Bertie isn't supposed to be that *pretty*. Please, someone, back me up on this....

And I have been rickrolled with the same bloody vid twice in the last 24 hours by two different people. Yes, I'm feeling very ashamed. I have an excuse : I thought it was a dr who fanvid, okay?

[livejournal.com profile] ironicbees is at it again with the pretty, pretty jeeves and wooster art.
burntcopper: (jack hmm)
Over here, they're pondering the 'what if so and so wasn't available for casting at the time' game for Jack Harkness. Some er... *interesting* responses. And several stuck on american actors. My thoughts below.

First, the character wasn't originally written as American - he was supposed to be British (take your pick of which country) and it's only the fact that JB slipped into a US accent during one of the early read-throughs and they felt it fit the 'film glamour' image better that he's American (which of course influenced later things like costume and character reactions - though not necessarily Matt Rippy casting, since it's not absolutely essential that the closeted heroic self-sacrificer is American).

So, casting details as they originally were : Really good-looking classic 'film-star' looks with a slight 1940s bent, con-man, convincing in action scenes, and believable in the 'will shag anything and *can* get anything' category.

:scratches head on trying to get someone to fit entire package: - I remember them saying at the time that all of that pretty much narrowed it down to one person who was on the UK acting scene, ie, JB so... hoo boy. And even if you got all the briefing elements right, your Harkness would be quite different. Especially later eps, because after the first couple of eps/first season, they normally start writing to the cast actor's strengths.

James Purefoy could do it. (go watch Rome, then call me)
Daniel Craig - no problems.
Paul Bettany - nearly all of it. except I'm not sure how he'd handle the action man factor. never seen him with guns and running like mad. (the ruthless bastard part, no problem)
Dougray Scott - most of, not sure about seduce-anything
Jason Statham - *if* he could pull off the dashing RAF hero image.
Clive Owen - omnisexual... er.
Peter Wingfield - almost certainly, atch.

ETA: I started running the Captain Jack Harkness lines if spoken by James Puresex through my head on the way home. I... er... um. You know how we joke about Jack being a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen? Now imagine the 'And this is Ianto Jones, he cleans up after us and gets us everywhere on time. He also looks great in a suit.' sequence. Um. Oh dear god. Let's just say the jokey aspect of that bit? Really, really not so jokey.

And once again, [livejournal.com profile] ironicbees is trying to kill me dead from sheer pretty in the Jeeves and Wooster department. Though this time, not so much with the subtext. Allll about the text this time round. :happy sigh:
burntcopper: (just try it)
[livejournal.com profile] ironicbees clearly has a mission. To make all Jeeves and Wooster fangirls DED FROM GUH over her pretty, pretty art illustrating certain scenes from the books. The expressions *alone*. No, really. Click. Dribble. I think the [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir comm has an unfair share of talented people. :muses: Or possibly it's the discerning influence of Plum. Ah, Wodehouse fandom. I do love that you are a fandom that has a self-imposed rule about narration in the correct voice.

Have finally figured out what it is I can get mum for her 60th. (it's on monday. Yes, I left it a bit late.) However, this means making a trip to Hamleys, with a possible side-venture to Forbes. Last time I was there, several years ago, I remember sniffing and labelling it a badly-organised tourist trap. Do not expect it to have changed.

Two barbecues this weekend. I predict my entire state to be stuffed and tipsy.
burntcopper: (death of rats)
Well, fully chocolated out. (seriously, my family got each other chocolate. specifically Hotel Chocolat.)

Dr Who download being v. slow - missed most of it due to parents deciding that we would be having christmas dinner this year when everyone was actually *hungry*, which meant early evening - you graze the rest of the day as it is.

On that topic...er... does anyone know a source for the Vicar of Dibley special? It doesn't seem to be something that appears on torrent sites. I find myself wanting to watch it.

The haul consists of Noel Coward cds, Turkish delight, Dixie Chicks CD, posh moisturizer, chutneys and pickles strong enough to blow your head off, a swanky bag and some other bits.

In other news, amused by the fact that two of my teams have either got draws or won in their Boxing Day matches. Reading drew against Chelski (no mean feat), Newcastle lost to Bolton (twits) and London Irish vs. Leicester, to which my brother buggered off to gibbering and predicting gloom and massacre to us, was actually won. I suspect he is probably still celebrating. (to those unaware - London Irish have for the past several years been based in Reading)

reading my way through yuletide. I may have squeed my head off at the Chronicles of Prydain section and the fantabulous Entourage and Torchwood fic. Always interesting to see what fandoms are popular this year, some which you never expect. Sadly, Jeeves and Wooster section was about middling this year, including one real dud. May have to see if I can get the [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir lot going, bunny-wise...

(also in the plotbunny section : me pondering that perhaps the world needs fic set in the thirties where Ianto is actually Jack's valet, as opposed to the entirety of Torchwood's. Or possibly time-slip, Ianto is acting as Jack's valet and muttering about it while Jack protests that it's basically his job description in Torchwood three as it is. 'Perhaps, sir, but there's a difference between job description and job title.' And now I have images of him joining the Junior Ganymede and Jeeves and him having friendly one-upping for efficiency competitions. [livejournal.com profile] jamjar, feel free to come in at any time...)

Spent yesterday doing bugger all, then at 5pm got hit by headache that turned into cramps. arrgh. Went bed and then woke up at 10pm, bloody starving. Ate dinner, went bed at 1am, (hey, this is *good* for me) then lay awake for about half an hour feeling queasy. Yay.

Watched about three eps of Jeeves and Wooster (had meant to watch other stuff but was not in mood) and came to conclusion that ITV and the writers had a mission to make it damn clear that they are like unto a tree full of monkeys on nitrous dioxide. Yes, Jeeves trying to break up Bertie plus any female is one thing, but all the reaction shots of Jeeves looking highly sceptical anytime Bertie makes a mention of possible female companionship? Jeeves, just add a damn green carnation to Bertie's ensemble, will you? (as long as it doesn't clash with his attire, of course) Pouting over the fact that practically entire cast besides Tuppy Glossop, Stinker Pinker, Constable Oates, Spode, Sir Watkyn-Bassett, and Pop Stoker appears to have changed. Some are equally fabulous, or fabulous in different ways (Madelyn even more horrific but not as pretty, the aunts rule, Stiffy too tall but still fabulous, and Bingo? Bingo's supposed to be really good-looking, dammit!) Speaking of Bingo, I keep waiting for Rosie. I want the entirely sensible trash-novel writing wonder who reins Bingo in!

In other news, I really need to poke my fic but have no real bunnies. Oh well.

Oh, and for quick moving people on for sites - I think Oi Yanks No is the one with the most visitors who aren't flist related, so is most in need of this. Anyone got any decent 404 page tutorial links? (ie, that I can put a 'ooops, all pages moved, try here' message on)
burntcopper: (jack checking time)
Arrgh. In one of those phases where I'm craving fic of a particular pairing. Anything - romance, angst, gen, snark, stabstab hatred, *anything*, and even though people are producing it steadily, it's NOT ENOUGH. :pokes Torchwood fandom: Why can't you be like Supernatural and produce fic by the bucketload on the hour?

Yes, my new obsession (fic-wise at least) is Jack/Ianto. I'm quite partial to Gwen/Owen too. I mean, I adore Rhys, I loved the fact that Gwen had a normal boyfriend, but Gwen/Owen I'm loving far too much. They just fit too well.

Jeeves and Wooster. I watched 5 eps of today in a 'argh taking up space on harddrive' fit. And concluded that there is no way the people in NYC didn't think they were gay, *especially* the building's elevator guy. and aww, Jeeves actually having to take a moment when Rocky said that he didn't even dress for dinner, he just stayed in his pyjamas and Bertie recognising his *pain*.. Mind you, terribly pouty that they changed the actress for Pauline Stoker between series. The original was interesting and ballsy, the new one? Just pretty. and didn't seem to give off the impression that she'd quite happily kick you in the balls.
burntcopper: (shep face)
well, aside from wishing to kill the inefficient evil that is electric stoves - 25 fucking minutes to boil water and 20 minutes to crisp bacon? Through a *thin pan*? (the frying pans back home are thick cast iron do serious fucking damage ones, and 10-15 mins is their average on a medium/low heat gas stove)

[livejournal.com profile] trinityofone is evil. [livejournal.com profile] megolas knows this, due to the John sheppard in bowtie pic. However, due to [livejournal.com profile] notpoetry writing fic for this, with added stages of how to tie a bowtie.

...and now I have images of a Jeeves and Wooster style AU. And am torn between which should be the gentleman's personal gentleman, since although Rodney is of superior intelligence, John does the mysterious ways, laconic and eyebrow better.

Send help.
