Back home from convention on a very cold and rainy weekend. November, did you have to finally kick in *now*?. V. silly, v. fun, rather relaxed - guests gave good value for the most part, Communion was had (Leah Cairns and Luciana assisting his holiness the rev. Johnny Wallet - poor things got fed Rich Tea biscuits for communion wafers, and whisky!cam was screencapped and printed off for sale for charity. The girls were seen going 'oh christ i hope my family doesn't find out'), and partying acheived. Jamie Bamber and James Callis were on fine form - of especial note were James describing the Bridget Jones fight and Jamie's description of revenge on Baltar where he slashed himself, and his comment on the Thistle being a shithole. Both of them bitching about driving down the M4 to get here. Alessandra is v. sweet and funny (plays the very first Cylon in Caprica, and many of the blokes were wailing about the fact that she may be 21 but they feels so dirty about fancying her since she looks 16.) Leah (Racetrack) and Luciana (Kat) were funny and revealing, Kate Vernon (Ellen Tigh) is classy and awesome, but definitely needs the right questions, and Morena and Sean Maher discussed Firefly, V, and other projects - anyone know much about Human Target? - and as is usual with the Firefly lot, took the piss out of each other. far more on form on sunday as not so hungover and jetlagged.parties and costumes )

and now, verifying nano (didn't have time to wait for the site on Friday morning - I really should've done in monday) and catching up on the fic and fandom comms...)

along with the usual insanity (torchwood discussion, robin Hood, Stargate, bitching about behind the scenes stuff, spin-off novels, James Marsters, convention stuff, comicses, fandom politics and perception of characters and motivations when seen through the extremely skewed lens that is most fanpeople vs. the normal viewer and thus audience expectation, theatre and adaptation squee, writers guild strike, what's profitable), I'd never thought it was actually possible to torture people who're trying to quit smoking with the smell of bbq ribs. Or mint ice cream. *Seriously*. Paul and Jackie's heads kept following my mint ice cream whenever I moved the plate. With added whimpering. And then Sean went and said 'last offer to passively smoke my cigar'. The size their eyes went was ... snickersome as they followed him outside.

around 7pm - we'd been in the pub since 12 - someone floated the 'what if' of the British version of firefly, set post the English civil war, though we updated it a bit to more Regency period for the fun of it. And then we cast it (but being realistic for those who'd do tv).

Bluebottle.

the transport would be named Basildon. the logo being the tube sign.
Instead of browncoats it'd be redcoats. Battles would be named after civil war battles. Planets after tube stops.

Capt Rupert Reynolds - Jack Davenport / David Morrissey (terribly repressed english officer)
Zoe - Sophie Okenedo (the only person we could really think of who'd look good with a shotgun)
Rinse (Wash) - Rhys Ifans
Susan (Jayne) - Robert Carlyle
Tracey (chav Kaylee) - Billie Piper
Trickle (River) - Hannah Spirit (her off primeval)
Simon - Harry Lloyd
Penelope - Martine McCutcheon (think sloane gone slightly wrong, and the tea ceremony would be... something to behold)
Book - Lenny Henry.

Reavers : re-named the Pikeys. it kind of went on from there. Don't ask.

The horrifying thing was that we concluded that 'Jane Austen in space' would be pretty easy to pitch in the current climate...

(so now we're hassling Jim to try to submit it to Radio 4 for the comedy slot if nothing else. And we want t-shirts.)

Well, er... party party party, [livejournal.com profile] lissy111 has lost her con virgin status (and due to mucho research, did not come off as a virgin - she even damn well learnt swamp thing, which is known to be the most evil of the con dances - she's learning dr who next). We had the return of the Alex, who has been absent for at least a year due to money issues, and muchos happy geeking. Ming was pouting that he was no longer the only oriental in the village at this con. (two others as well as Paul Chan, who giggled muchly at the fact that Ming is now being mistaken for Paul...)

Talk stuff... er... Nectar Rose (Mrs Universe) is an absolute sweetie, Michael whatsisface (Niska to you) is also lovely and it was his first con, amazing considering how much tv he's done, dragged along by Mark Sheppard, and does impromptu silly dances when he feels we're getting too serious. Jewel, Sean, Morena, Christina and Mark are slightly nuts as usual. Mark and Michael are, quite simply Villains United and enjoy it far too much. Michael stated that he never gets Leading Man status so instead, he blows them up and tortures them in revenge. Added sensual feelings for torturing Wash and Mal. V. few silly questions, but somehow lots of questions turned towards acting theory. You'll be glad to know that Sean Maher's answer to boxers or briefs was 'none', but later admitted that it depends on the day. Managed to freak out Jewel by mentioning that Kaylee/Jayne is quite popular, as well as a momentary 'you're kidding' from them on Simon/Mal and Simon/Jayne. Though a moment later 'actually, I can see that...' from Sean. Deemed much quieter with no Nathan there. And it was running mostly on time! Auuuuugh!

All those on main hall duty were pleading for hitmen whenever Aric got to the microphone (v. tall Israeli guy with no manners or sense of appropriateness, who we chewed out a few times over the weekend) - Andy Brown wanted snipers. No ramblers, most impressed. Whenever Jimmy got up, there was an 'oh, shit, how drunk is he *this* time?' In the drunken nominations, one girl was so pissed that she actually got refused service at the local pub *twice*. With added shrieking that got Sean to put out on the tannoy 'please ignore the girl having an orgasm in public'.

It was also officially Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow weekend. As well as Jack being Sparrow and Sleepy Hollow, he and Tors got a group prize for Edward Scissorhands. Lots of Jack Sparrows (including a rather fantastic DMC + Davey Jones from the brothers) in fancy dress, Lizzie once again got kiddy entry as a Fruity Oaty Bar girl (she appears to have decided to go indie kid as opposed to chav now she's a teen), Claire got a runner up as Chianna, and Sloopy got a ridiculous amount of cheering plus prize for Hurley from Lost. Lots of pirates, including Cpt. Jas Hook. Rainbow of Companions achieved for Sunday, plus the Forces trio of Ming, Andy and Chewie.

Being tempted towards going to SG-11 in November in the Vala Goa'uld costume (must be insane), and as Alex is now back on the con scene, we're finally pressuring Ming to do Ming the Merciless at Duckology. Which means I have to do Dale Arden. Air Hostie costume. Which means making a blazer. Arrrrgh.

Photos later. Need Soy and ginger as have streaming cold.

At which there was :deep breath: Ron Glass (Book), Mark Sheppard (Badger), Chris Buchanan (ex-head of Mutant Enemy and Exec producer on Serenity), Nathan Fillion (Mal), Jewel Staite (Kaylee), Morena Baccarin (Inara), Summer Glau (River Tam), and Alan Tudyk (Wash).

Lo, there was squee, drunkenness, Ron Glass's utterly filthy laugh, dinosaurs, Dr. Who, and more squee. Also Jewel and Summer complaining about being picked on by Nathan, and Alan and Nathan being evil.

Plus? A Universal film crew hanging about most of the weekend to film the fans and a couple of the talks, and our reaction to the trailer. Yes. Really. Apparently they want this for things like the dvd and promotion for the film.

It's, er, slightly embarassing. I can't remember too many details, since the squee kind of drowns it all out.
No power in the 'verse can stop me. )
