Those of you on the barrowmanonline yahell pit o' voles and fail list:

George announced that ADWD was going to be aired on BBC America.

I replied to the list with what I thought was a reasonable discussion topic - ie, what kind of audience they'd think they'd be getting aside from the JB obsessed, since you don't have the personal investment of following it each week and ringing for your favourite - because the competition aired nearly two years ago, the result is done and dusted, and everyone knows Lee won. I've never heard of them re-running pop idol...

George has just emailed me off-list :

my original response )
And like I said, George emailed me back off-list with this :
George's response )

Cue me facepalming and replying :

um, yes, that was what I was asking of the list - who they thought would be watching it. i was interested in what the list thought because I've never heard of tv channels re-running the 'vote for your favourite' pop-idol type shows. America's next top model, yes, where the public has no vote, but not the ones where the viewers voted.

....Missing the point much? Considering the list was discussing it to hell and back when it aired....

:hyperventilates:

To the usual suspects - John's out to kill himself with overwork and laughing himself into an early grave again this christmas.

19th Dec - 27th Jan, Birmingham Hippodrome, Aladdin.

Who's with me? Dates, people.

Also. anyone got the galactica soundtrack? I for some reason have the Roslin and Adama track on my playlist, and it's bloody gorgeous (wave slightly middle-eastern in my face and see me drool) - rest of it like this?

Hmm. :pokes concepts: Is there a word for people who clearly fancy each other, know it's reciprocated, but aren't doing much about it at present? And sort of give off sort of taken vibes? Y'know, those people who everyone know are going to end up together. It's not UST because it's acknowledged and they're normally quite comfortable about it. Does 'fancy each other' cover it or are there better words?

ETA : having discussed it with [livejournal.com profile] jamjar, we believe that this is what technically known as an 'understanding'.

Need to find a guacamole recipe.

Also, I just got tagged for a usability/presentation meeting in the role of outsider tomorrow. Huh.

Joseph : Ben finally got ejected this week. Doubt he'll have problems finding a job - his sheer stage presence and entertainment quality is stunning, just his voice that needs a bit of work. As Denise said, your eyes are riveted by Ben but your ears are riveted by Keith. And if you're going by live theatre, visual/stage presence is often more important than a pure voice. Lewis' performance during the sing-offs and team-up with Lee showed a very, very mature performance - I don't think he'll win, but if he can control the pressure he'll do good later on. Quite possible Andrew'll keep him in reserve in case of problems / sick leave since he fulfils pretty much all the criteria that Andrew wants for Joseph and any possible going to pieces/stage fright can be trained out of him. Fingers so, so crossed for Lee to win, since we don't know who gets highest votes, only lowest - I seriously hope there isn't a massive gap between Keith and Lee, since we don't know if Keith can act. Which does not bode well for the second act. We know he can pull off the tearjerker, but the strength? And I don't remember him doing too well in the loincloth bit either. Must go back and re-watch to see how Lewis did.

Understand that we completely blame [livejournal.com profile] cidercupcakes for the weather this weekend. Went Borough Market on the saturday morning, where the weather was cool but outlook looked good. Jules arrives at Paddington at 2:45. Weather turns progressively colder and rainier from then on, getting colder and rainier throughout weekend.

Saturday : Camden Market (where I had to be restrained from pretty sundresses, which I do not need, and pouted immensely that the small was the last one of the one I really liked - and of course had to be one of the ones only available in a particular shop rather'n throughout the market) and then making Jules watch Captain Jack Harkness and the first ep of Robin Hood, which I spent mostly apologising for all the terrible quirks of the first ep. Dr Who was simply, ridiculously awesome and Jules wailed at the universe, asking why she did not have any Martha icons. This was rectified whilst she tolerated my addiction to ADWD. In conclusion : Lee is awesome, got to duet with Josh Groban while the other boys went utterly green when he was picked (and also drowning the others out in the group songs), Lewis has improved, and though I love you to pieces, Craig, you're not on the calibre of the others. :hugs: Jules laughed immensely over how weepy the boys are, especially when I was watching the post-exit interviews of Daniel... and my god, the amount that lad talks about Lewis and how much he loves him... Daniel, I'm trying not to slash you. Please don't *do* that. Every other word is 'Lewis'. Further notes, Andrew, when you say in your post-show interviews and other comments that it's very difficult to choose out of the surviving four and that you just don't know who's going to win, you do know everyone's raising the eyebrow of disbelief at you, right?

Sunday : Both of us gradually hauled ourselves out of bed due to colds and headaches and grottiness. Eventually got out of flat and went British Museum to see The New World, which was based on all the watercolours done by John White, who was the artist for one of the first expeditions to the US by the English. (with added shock horror that these actually focused on the anthropological side - trying to get as much detail about cultural stuff as possible into the pictures and clearly portraying individuals - these all formed the basis for a *lot* of the later woodcuts and so on.)

After this, there was more Robin Hood. See Jules go starry-eyed and fall completely head over heels for Djaq and Marion and agree with me that it is awesome to have one of the main fan OTPs actually be an OT3, and that I'm terribly proud of my fandom for not having ship wars over the fact that when it was revealed that two of the boys in one of the main slash pairings liked the new girl. Instead, it went 'OT3, everyone agreed?'. Then Pizza Express.

Monday : Contemplated PotC. Looked at weather, looked at prices. Went 'blegh' and watched more Robin Hood. Explosions, Djaq, and teh gay did terrible things to Jules. :snicker: And then I further exploded her brain by taking her to see Spamalot. Jules did indeed parrot the entirety of the swallow/coconut scene. And it's frankly awesome when Always Look on the Bright Side started, and the cast is backed up by entire audience singing the song softly with them. We also love Patsy.

When got back, made skirt part of the dress for Dale Arden (the cloth still hasn't arrived at work, so I think there's no chance of Jedi robe. Dammit.) and then started watching the first ep of How do you solve a problem like Maria. Which was kind of fascinating due to me not watching it the first time round. Am with Graham Norton on David Ian coming across as slimeball. Also vaguely intrigued by the little glimpses of Connie you see at the auditions - hadn't yet got to the bit with her callback by the time I went to bed last night, but she was interviewed once by Graham at the regionals about how different the audition process was to normal auditions and she was in the background of a couple of shots. Wonder if she'd have caught my eye the first time round, like Lee did. Kinda fun for seeing the differences in how they were doing things like the school and also the selection - I'm amazed that the panel had to see 200 girls in one day for the callbacks, I thought 100 was bad enough for Joseph. David Ian dominating the callbacks. Every other comment is on how attractive the girl is. :shudders:

Result of weekend : JULES, I WANT REGENCY BUFFY/SHARPE. ALSO REGENCY
SHARPE/MAL. YOU OWE ME FOR MAKING THE WEATHER LIKE THIS.

Spent yesterday being ill (threw up a few times, got out for a bit to the park for fresh air, spent rest of it shivering on sofa and half-dozing half trying to keep eyes open for Dr who and Joseph competition - slightly peeved that I missed first few minutes and thus the group song of the second half). Tells you something when Jen phones up to squee about Dr Who, then her second comment is '... how ill are you? You sound terrible.' Even had someone coming over in Regents Park to share their strawberries and I had to grimace and tell them thankyou but they'd be wasted since I hadn't been able to keep anything down. Feeling a bit better today, but poking the weather outside. it is bank holiday. it's supposed to be sunny all day, not just for a few hours in the afternoon.

Dr Who fab. Josephs all not at their best this week, aside from Keith, who was sparkling all over the stage. Agree with Chris leaving - he was great in the first live week, great at Joseph school, just not able to sustain it. Ben has been shining even more, which proves me wrong about wanting him to bugger off in the first couple of weeks. Craig - not great, but the Les Mis thing was... interesting, because he pulled it off where the others couldn't. Rob, you have no range. Bugger off, please. Lewis, you annoy me. :pets Daniel and Lee:

Dr Who trailer for next bunch of eps. :thud: JACK! JACK! JACK! MORE JACK! It appears the trailer makers know exactly what the audience wants.

Saw [livejournal.com profile] munchkinott in town yesterday pre-Equus, where squee and walking and the astounding ability of Heather to get lost on a straight road was proven. Fortunately, it turns out that Victoria -> Picadilly is a mostly straight line, so Munchie got to shepherd us through.

Possibly the only down point on that day? My wallet got nicked at some point on the way home (since Pizza Express hasn't got it). Stopped the cards, bloody annoyance that is having to go to the bank with statement to get money out. The main problem is the fact that my drivers' licence and things like blood donor card were in there.

Today, me and [livejournal.com profile] jamjar went for a constitutional in sunny, sunny and warm Regents' Park. It's like summer. We appear to have completely bypassed spring (what I define as that period where most people wear t-shirt and jeans without the need for a spare jumper) a wee bit early. Today was hot, in that... hmm. I guess the best way to describe is that it was nice, but wasn't one that you could soundtrack with 'Feelin' Good'. In the park, it really really felt like there should be a festival or concert going on in the distance.

Then we came back, ate baklava (Jen told me she's saving it from possibly going stale) and watched S2 Black Books, giggling our heads off.

Watched Dr Who again. It turns out that Uncle Rusty has indeed regained his writing mojo. Kittens!

Any Dream Will Do - good so far. Will be interesting to see more training and so on, which we'll get to see more of as the amount of time given over to performance goes down. I like Lee and Rob and a couple of the others, not too keen on Keith, and Chris C's voice really wasn't strong enough for theatre. Reckon he's a shoe-in for a pop career, though.
burntcopper: (hypocrisy)
Right. Off to funeral in nottingham around 3pm, so will be sans internet access for almost :gulp: 24 hours. Have bought Chris's birthday pressie, got an apology xmas one for Tabs since the actual xmas one is probably useless now, and hope that Rose hasn't bought hers in the few months since. Hansonism encroaching. arrgh. Now I just have the migraines to look forward to... (mind you, I have weaned myself off hair dying)

[livejournal.com profile] astolat has gone and committed Entourage vidding. It's Eric/Vince, but more about the friendship and it's ridiculously bouncy. I'd probably compare it to the Fastlane vid done by... er... :scratches head: Livia, maybe? Oh lord, I need to watch S3....

ITV Jane Austen verdict, Persuasion : Hmm. I'd say this one was the most successful, and even the camera quirks really worked, especially for the end running scene. Anne is convincing, as is Captain Wentworth, and I frankly adored Tony Head as Sir Walter, playing up the snobby tosser for all he was worth, plus Alice Krige brought the well-meaning snobbery for Lady Russell very well - more distant than the BBC version. Very good use of locations and scenery. [livejournal.com profile] alysscarlet, got a verdict?

Dr Who : We love Martha. And the Doctor. He's getting more batshit insane as the series goes on (Christopher Ecclestone being PTSD insane, Tennant being just basically *nutty*). Also, (no, this is not a spoiler), costume departments really need to stop outfitting alien races in such obviously recognisable gear. Those are New Rocks they're wearing. Okay, so you didn't see the logo, but they're er, kind of recognisable. Flatmate watched Dr Who for first time ever, having wandered in when it was just starting with a view to eyeing my biccits surreptitiously (she gets very unsubtle when I've been to the market). Explained to her that this is family entertainment, and one of the purposes is to completely scar little children. And make them hide behind the sofa. She couldn't stop laughing at Tennant's nuttiness or bugging slightly at some of the kid-scaring bits. Time shall see if we have a convert. Conclusion: Uncle Rusty is once again back on form, and actually dealt with the rose question *better* than the end of last season did. Next Saturday, the Cardiff gang take over the Globe Theatre...

An aside for the pubmeet gang, who have a tendency to discuss such things as scheduling and ratings and behind the scenes issues: Did you see what all the other channels put up against it? They've really, really admitted defeat. ITV - Harry Potter, but an hour earlier, in a weak attempt to get the kiddies to stay on that channel. Fat chance. Sky - Next Gen. Channel 5 had Terms of Endearment, which is at least pitching at a different market. BBC2 and Channel 4 had repeats of something, I think.

...I can foresee Any Dream Will Do becomign a guilty pleasure. Rather good seeing the judges giving constructive advice, especially when the 30-something dad came on and JB told him to stop, get on his knees and start singing to his kids. Suddenly, whole different quality of voice. Wincing for the poor sod who got told to re-start about five times, them telling him to go down an octave, or back it up and then it turned out his voice couldn't handle it... Interesting that you start to get in tune with the judges and can actually tell when they're going to say 'no' just from two or so lines of singing.
