boss clearly paranoid. he sees me shaking my keyboard, i tell him it's gummed up with crumbs... next thing I know he's asking what keyboard I want. Seriously, he was in the process of ordering me a new one. Cue me going 'er, no, there were just some crumbs stuck in it, they're gone now.' it's very nice, but I come from the school of 'if it's not broke, don't fix it'. My keyboard and screen are the only things on my computer that work perfectly (aside from my keyboard being filthy). And I only just permission from IT to defrag my computer this morning in the current mission to get my computer to work properly. Not to mention I found ten ancient user profiles on it - with added 'excuse me, *who* was using my computer?'.

pouting because some bastard stole my biscuits over the weekend. Rabid attack ninjas at the ready.

Woot. fandom misogyny rears its ugly head.

Robin Hood, the sheer amount of 'I hate Kate, she's stupid!' in the comments for the new ep... dear fucking god. No, seriously, the point is that she's a village girl, she's angry, she's scared and desperate and amazingly doesn't view the merries as saviours to be worshipped since they do cause a fuck load more attention and thus more reprisals for the peasants, she's never done rescue missions and doesn't know how to plan so of course she's lashing out and making mistakes. (I rather like this, since it's a new POV and she's acting realistically for the situation, not to mention the first timer mistakes.) But no, she's had a total of 15 minutes on screen and didn't fall in with them immediately, and because she's been announced as the new girl in all the promo material and is daring to replace Marian, she must DIE and get off our screens NOW. :eyeroll: Bet if she was a cute bloke who did all of this, they'd be going 'oh, woobie!' Of course, they all adore Tuck. And the antagonist of the ep. Clue, people. The reason the merries weren't fucking up in the planning and fighting and subeterfuge was because Robin and Much had been serving in the holy Land. Marian didn't fuck up too much as the Nightwatchman because she'd been doing it for years by the time we saw her. If they'd gone with the raw peasant angle of the legend, we would indeed have been seeing all of the mistakes Kate made. Rather glad that Djaq *hadn't* been announced as new permanent member of cast ahead of time when she started, since we'd probably have been getting this much hate if not more.

:rests chin on hands:

Sometimes, I truly do wish I hadn't trained the [livejournal.com profile] robinhoodbbc lot so well. Mostly because although it's enjoyable to have tantrums and be a sarcastic bitch on steroids and have no-one call me on it, you do not expect *applause*. or points scoring for level of tantrum. Really.

but on the other hand, in a few days time, we get new series. where Robin is apparently going to be out of his tree on a revenge kick, and Jonas has had a haircut so I actually fancy him now. Sadly, to cancel this out, Teh Armitage has got a long wig that does nothing for him and there's been a decrease in leather.

Oi, [livejournal.com profile] cynicalcylon, http://www.new-adventures.net/doriangray/tour - tour dates for you. And I don't need to see it twice in a year even if it is going to Wimbledon. [livejournal.com profile] clanwilliam, BACK ME UP ON THIS.

Amused that all the SGU interviews have been with Robert Carlyle so far.

Mmm. for those near Holborn? italian girl + me have discovered Malletti pizza bar on Clerkenwell. :moans: *proper* Italian pizza blessed by the FSM himself.

Today, it was so windy all the ferries were cancelled. Went to Pendennis, where I almost got blown over several times. Kind of interesting for the National Heritage geeks - St Mawes and Pendennis were built at the same time by Henry VIII, and the original castles are almost identical in layout and original gunrooms and so on, except Pendennis kept getting extra fortifications, the first of which made the original downstairs gunroom useless. Although if you've visited St Mawes, you can see how it would've originally been set up. Pendennis, on the other hand, was used continually as an artillery/barracks so quickly got extra buildings and big guns and so on. A lot of the Pendennis exhibition shows off the various fortifications and WWI and II barracks and guns and things like the location of the submarine mines and observation posts.

But my god it was like having your face made raw. With a couple of two minute bouts of rain. And interestingly, one case of hail when I was fifty yards from home.

Been catching up on Robin Hood. Way too much fun, loads of gay, fanservice, and large amounts of ultra-violence (though oddly bloodless). And [livejournal.com profile] munchkinott, Allan doing the lean and Gisburne sizing each other up in motion is even better and gayer than it is in screencap. Also, the amount of blatant anachronisms vs. the really bloody inconsequential only see them if you're a history geek details that are disturbingly historically accurate is making my head hurt. It's like 'whee! gay! whee! laura ashley prints! whee! Swashbuckling! :whiplash: '...was that just them cutting Marian's hair off in public as punishment?' and MUCH. 'We're artists.' :glomps:

Hmm. have two minutes to decide whether I want to go see Eastern Promises (viggo and Naomi watts film about eastern european gangsters in london.

Understand that we completely blame [livejournal.com profile] cidercupcakes for the weather this weekend. Went Borough Market on the saturday morning, where the weather was cool but outlook looked good. Jules arrives at Paddington at 2:45. Weather turns progressively colder and rainier from then on, getting colder and rainier throughout weekend.

Saturday : Camden Market (where I had to be restrained from pretty sundresses, which I do not need, and pouted immensely that the small was the last one of the one I really liked - and of course had to be one of the ones only available in a particular shop rather'n throughout the market) and then making Jules watch Captain Jack Harkness and the first ep of Robin Hood, which I spent mostly apologising for all the terrible quirks of the first ep. Dr Who was simply, ridiculously awesome and Jules wailed at the universe, asking why she did not have any Martha icons. This was rectified whilst she tolerated my addiction to ADWD. In conclusion : Lee is awesome, got to duet with Josh Groban while the other boys went utterly green when he was picked (and also drowning the others out in the group songs), Lewis has improved, and though I love you to pieces, Craig, you're not on the calibre of the others. :hugs: Jules laughed immensely over how weepy the boys are, especially when I was watching the post-exit interviews of Daniel... and my god, the amount that lad talks about Lewis and how much he loves him... Daniel, I'm trying not to slash you. Please don't *do* that. Every other word is 'Lewis'. Further notes, Andrew, when you say in your post-show interviews and other comments that it's very difficult to choose out of the surviving four and that you just don't know who's going to win, you do know everyone's raising the eyebrow of disbelief at you, right?

Sunday : Both of us gradually hauled ourselves out of bed due to colds and headaches and grottiness. Eventually got out of flat and went British Museum to see The New World, which was based on all the watercolours done by John White, who was the artist for one of the first expeditions to the US by the English. (with added shock horror that these actually focused on the anthropological side - trying to get as much detail about cultural stuff as possible into the pictures and clearly portraying individuals - these all formed the basis for a *lot* of the later woodcuts and so on.)

After this, there was more Robin Hood. See Jules go starry-eyed and fall completely head over heels for Djaq and Marion and agree with me that it is awesome to have one of the main fan OTPs actually be an OT3, and that I'm terribly proud of my fandom for not having ship wars over the fact that when it was revealed that two of the boys in one of the main slash pairings liked the new girl. Instead, it went 'OT3, everyone agreed?'. Then Pizza Express.

Monday : Contemplated PotC. Looked at weather, looked at prices. Went 'blegh' and watched more Robin Hood. Explosions, Djaq, and teh gay did terrible things to Jules. :snicker: And then I further exploded her brain by taking her to see Spamalot. Jules did indeed parrot the entirety of the swallow/coconut scene. And it's frankly awesome when Always Look on the Bright Side started, and the cast is backed up by entire audience singing the song softly with them. We also love Patsy.

When got back, made skirt part of the dress for Dale Arden (the cloth still hasn't arrived at work, so I think there's no chance of Jedi robe. Dammit.) and then started watching the first ep of How do you solve a problem like Maria. Which was kind of fascinating due to me not watching it the first time round. Am with Graham Norton on David Ian coming across as slimeball. Also vaguely intrigued by the little glimpses of Connie you see at the auditions - hadn't yet got to the bit with her callback by the time I went to bed last night, but she was interviewed once by Graham at the regionals about how different the audition process was to normal auditions and she was in the background of a couple of shots. Wonder if she'd have caught my eye the first time round, like Lee did. Kinda fun for seeing the differences in how they were doing things like the school and also the selection - I'm amazed that the panel had to see 200 girls in one day for the callbacks, I thought 100 was bad enough for Joseph. David Ian dominating the callbacks. Every other comment is on how attractive the girl is. :shudders:

Result of weekend : JULES, I WANT REGENCY BUFFY/SHARPE. ALSO REGENCY
SHARPE/MAL. YOU OWE ME FOR MAKING THE WEATHER LIKE THIS.

[livejournal.com profile] juleskicks, you may need to make sure all beverages are nowhere near you when you click this link.

Gah. got to go Sainsburys to stock up for tomorrow - suitable food. Also have to get up for 6-ish since the new Wind in the Willows adaptation. Mark Gatiss! Lee Ingleby! Matt Lucas! BOB HOSKINS AS BADGER! WIND IN THE BLOODY WILLOWS, PEOPLE!

...Seriously, what is it about this book that makes grown adults go 'squee! Where? Gimme!'

And then stay awake and compos mentis for Torchwood. :gibber: Plesae, please, please let me keep my Jack/Ianto hopes alive for next season.

Yesterday was pubmeet, where there was much Robin Hood squee from the people who'd been watching it regularly and then having to tell everyone else who'd given up after a couple of eps that it's actually turned into something *good*. No, really. Also, the awesomeness of the Sheriff. One guy who had been watching it missed last week so was getting a quick run-down of what happened last week, so we went 'well... wedding date been set, Marian gets stabbed by Gisburne, traitor surgeon, she apparently dies - oh, and Will and Allan are thinking about going to Scarborough for their honeymoon.' Everyone else who'd been watching it nodded in agreement. And then we got into a debate on if anyone was actually straight in this show. We came up with Marian, John and Djaq being completely straight, with Gisburne and Robin being vaguely straight but not averse to man-loving.

I hadn't heard this, but apparently even ITV refers to the 7pm slot as 'Dr Who time', and have given up all hopes of competing against it, admitting that they bloody watch or record it themselves.

Oh, and news - BBC are developing a new project for the Dr Who slot to fill one of the gaps between Robin Hood and Dr Who. It's going to be their own take on Merlin, same way as they did for Robin Hood - completely original, no specific books or legends. Be interesting to see how it turns out. Plus apparently the Blake's Seven radio whatsit is beyond awesome. Plus Craig Kelly is pouting a lot over the fact that Russell hasn't asked him to be in Dr Who yet - his brother's got to play Shakespeare in S3, and he hasn't even been asked. Thinkies is possibly because in QAF he basically played *Russell*, so... Oh, go on, Russell, be nice to Craig. The Doctor needs a male assistant. There's Torchwood!

Someone is evil. Beauty and the beast + historical + SGA Mcshep.... :hyperventilates: (oddly, the mcshep bit is the weakest part. The outside the castle stuff is the best, in my opinion.) The moment someone writes SGA Snow Queen with background detail this rich I'm going to be so very dead of hyperventilation. (ETA : Actually, technically, anytime anyone writes SGA which starts off as getting to know each other, best friends/lovers, long detailed journey to get one of them back who was kidnapped, then getting them back with added growing closer, you write Snow Queen. I believe [livejournal.com profile] seperis is writing a damn good version of this particular trope right now, spoilers for 3x10. It's just that no-one specifically *says* it's Snow Queen and they don't use the setting. Rodney's a very good Gerda, and John - attaching his sled to the Snow Queen's sleigh because it's a bet and it's going fast? *Such* a Kay. Hmm. I may need to get that Christmas version they did on dvd.) The reason I like Snow Queen is because it's damsel in distress reversal with lots of details and the characters actually grow up and change as the story goes along.

Arm + shoulder still in pain and twinging, with added twinges across the back of my head, my back and a few other places. Yes, nervous system, I know these places are connected, you don't have to remind me. Not fun when it happens, mostly just a dull ache. Not sure when physiotherapist will get round to me, NHS waiting lists being what they are. This is seriously annoying, because my family is one of those very healthy families who just use the GP/hospital for check-ups, or sprained ankles, or things like appendicitis. Teeth besides orthodontics went private in my early teens, so I didn't have to wait to have my jaw looked at, which was the last major thing. Speaking of teeth, had the new hygienist yesterday. Who came out with 'you do a lot of mouth-breathing. Sinus problems?' Cue a lot of blinking. Took suction thingy out of mouth and went 'um, general cold for past couple of months, how can you tell?' Apparently a sign of mouth breathing is build up of plaque/tartar behind top front teeth, because you don't spend enough time with your mouth closed for your tongue to rub away most of it.

Need to catch up with SG-1 and watch ep 10 of SGA. Also most recent ep of supernatural. BSG is going to have my fingernails worn down to the quick in about two seconds if they continue like this.

Robin Hood I'm happy with. Flinching at the camera work, but loving everything else. [livejournal.com profile] jamjar and I are of the opinion that Guy and Marian need to get married, because they are grown-ups and understand politics. And once they are married, they will occasionally put in calls for Robin when they feel like a treat. Because though he's fine for sex, the overgrown puppy and immaturity wears on you a bit.

In related news, I had the slightly frightening prospect of having new community in new fandom on saturday. Every few hours, [livejournal.com profile] robinhoodbbc grew by 10 new members. How the hell are they finding it? The first ten or so people were flist, or flist of flist. And it's only going to grow. Oh shite, what did I do?

Hmmp. Why have I seen bugger all supernatural/Smallville crossover fic? (besides the rps, which is plentiful) Maybe the sheer pretty wouldn't be able to cope, plus the whole Jensen crossover factor. You'd think that would be in its favour. Midwest! Slashiness! Pretty! Weird happenings! Seriously, I've seen more SGA/Supernatural than I have Smallville/Supernatural.

If you got to [livejournal.com profile] robinhoodbbc's profile, you may notice that other comms are listed. :wails: It was pre-emptive, dammit! (How to tell one has been part of fandom for too long : you can predict the basic splits and what lines they'll split along straight off.) I won't be able to predict the ships and what'll cause the shipper wars before the show even starts, but I can at least get a quick 'n' dirty fix in for people to post stuff. No, I'm not precious about modding. Never done it before. I just... filled a gap. Mind you, seriously surprised that a fandom that has at its base been going in fairly constant popularity since about the 13th century hasn't had those lj names snapped up yet. Hmmp. Suppose the RoS lot, who were the last major permutation of this fandom, and still going, tend to label themselves as RoS fans primarily, and thus snap up those permutations - see [livejournal.com profile] rosfic. (Prince of Thieves does not count, as it's more like one fic every blue moon on the asteroids of the moon of Eris, I think it's actually impossible to do more than giggle over Maid Marian and her Merry Men and Men in Tights, and we do not speak of the unclean thing that was filmed in the colonies.)

Another thought : Was flitting around a few people's sites, and looking at the date some fandom sites were last updated. Some of them, it's been *years*. I only kept my BtVS/Angel sites around a year or so after losing interest, and I'm pretty sure It's Been Emotional, pretty though it is, last gasp of nostalgia that it is, will be going the way of the dodo next time I get my ruthless streak going. Along with Adaptation, which never really got off the ground properly, and probably the fridge site. Christ, I may even start a new archive site for the new fandom, along the lines of Wraithbait, archiving the fic. Been a while since I did much web stuff, and it'd be interesting.

Just pondering, for the people who create stuff and then leave it up for years ([livejournal.com profile] taraljc, for example), any reason why? Nostalgia? Pretty? Lack of 'wanna smash!' compulsion?

Work do was... work do. I asked lots of questions, we found out what it is Marketing actually *does*, large amounts of people seem to have no idea what it is Production does, unless you're part of Editorial (we're Editorial Production. We liase.) and all seem to be fairly unaware that these are the people who control the end result, it was concluded that the entire company would like a detailed 'who does what' list so we a) don't have to make pathetic bleating noises when we have no idea who to ask, and b) stop Customer Services randomly forwarding queries to us on subjects we have no idea about whatsoever.

There was an art competition to draw an animal you felt represented the company, with two categories - best representation and best artistic, voted for with different coloured stars stuck on there at lunchtime. Turns out I'm one of the few people who can actually draw in the entire company aside from Trevor the designer and Tom in our group. And yes, I did draw a horse because it was one of the few things I could remember how to draw realistically from memory. 'Er... Freedom! Ahead of the pack!' James, looking over my shoulder : 'Guinness!' (the surfing advert). He does have a point. Trevor won artistic. :pout: Unfair advantage. Still, came out of the day with a plus : five extra bonus holiday days for entire company next year! Wheee!

*Finally* started Temeraire. Go away, glorying in the [livejournal.com profile] astolat prose. Also, the whole 'oh, this is *so* clearly converted M&C fanfic that got away from her' and spotting the bits.

The head cold rages onwards. What's this thing you call balance?

Went and created [livejournal.com profile] robinhoodbbc. Oooops.

Commencing : RIGHT NOW.

Robin Hood Aka Heather's personal porn and first fandom and true love.*

They've finally put some stuff up on the website, bios of the characters and pictures and video bits - I can't watch the video until I get home due to the BBC insisting on realplayer.

But, but, Robin back from the crusades! Marian as the go-between! Will Scarlet the supremely competent engineer! John as ex-leader! Gisburne as sadistic bastard and having a thing for Marian! Much as devoted squire/servant with added whining and comedicness! Alan-a-Dale as a con artist!

:HYPERVENTILATES:

I, er, PLEASE INTERNET JESUS let this live up to just the fricking bios and I'll spend most of saturday early evenings with my brain making little happy popping noises and being incomprehensible.

Also, if you hear me wibbling something chronic about Will Scarlet, it's not my fault. Blame early exposure to Ray Winstone.

Alan-a-Dale as a CON ARTIST. Much as COMEDY SIDEKICK. Will as SUPER-COMPETENT. :popping noises:

*I came to this country aged 4, picked up a book with someone in green tights on it, and immediately went 'one true love, never leave me'.
